Winners of the Mobile Rules! 2008 competition were announced at a ceremony held at the San Jose City Hall:
Best Business Plan:
The award for the Best Business Plan was given to MedApps, a US-based company that designs mobile technology for the health care sector. MedApps Mobile Wireless Health Monitoring System offers those with chronic illnesses, such as asthma or diabetes, the possibility to transmit readings that are being monitored in connection with their illness to healthcare providers. The mobile MedApps system enables people with chronic illnesses to have more active lifestyles.

Best Multimedia Application:
MyStrands Social Player, by MyStrands
MyStrands Social Player enables users to discover and play new music of their liking, to meet people with similar musical tastes and find out how much their music is played and by whom. Over 6 million music tracks are available for the MyStrands Social Player.
Best Multiplayer Application:
GAMICA Multiplayer/Connected Games Application: Sumo-Sumo
Sumo-Sumo is a Tetris-style multiplayer game, in which players build piles using multicoloured blocks.
Best Infotainment Application:
Earthcomber LLC Infotainment Application: Earthcomber
Earthcomber is an innovative navigation software that relies on free GPS-enabled maps. Users join or create groups that let them share or discover spots where a movie was shot, a crime occurred, and so on.
Best Enterprise Application:
UpCode Ltd/UPC Enterprise Consulting Ltd Application: UpCode parking
UpCode parking is a mobile parking payment system, which uses the optical scanner of a mobile phone. The application is based on a 2D code with inbuilt intelligence. This enables the use of a payment system that can be managed using an ordinary mobile phone and which can be applied locally.
The originality, design, user-friendliness and overall use experience of the applications taking part in the competition were assessed using ZEF. When assessing business plans, ZEF was used to evaluate matters such as innovativeness, market potential and business opportunities.
